Clicker Training Classes

Think you can't teach an old dog new tricks?  We think you can! Dogs of all ages benefit from training, which is why we offer classes for puppies and dogs at our shelter. Our classes are especially beneficial to those that have been adopted from shelters.  The stability and predictability that comes with training provides a smooth transition from their shelter environment to their new home.  The end result is happy dogs that thrive.

Haven Humane staff, Krista and Woody.

Krista and Woody teach "High Five" to Amber.

Our training programs are open to the public and are conducted by three experienced, caring trainers --  Judy Brown, Krista Korenko and Woody Woodland.

Staff trainers Krista Korenko and Woody Woodland offer a free orientation twice a month that allows you to judge for yourself why we are so excited about this style of training.

We use a positive reinforcement method of training -- its big advantage is looking for behaviors to reward, rather than behaviors to punish.

Clicker training is a method of communicating with animals.  It relies on being able to define a specific behavior to achieve, then breaking it down into the required steps to make it happen.  By clicking and rewarding each small step, we make it fun and easy for the animal to succeed.  In fact, it is so much fun, we call it the "training game."  The use of a properly timed click is the most powerful tool in a trainer's inventory.

The classes are offered in our Training Center in hour-long sessions -- morning, afternoon, and evening -- throughout the week.  This flexible schedule allows you to attend classes at your convenience.  You no longer have to commit to the same time each week to achieve the training results you want.

You may purchase sessions in blocks of four or eight, and use them as often as is convenient for you. In addition to learning this extraordinary new system of communicating with your dog, you will be socializing them in a safe and friendly environment.  Our clients tell us how convenient this format is and how much fun they are having while making amazing progress.

Private sessions are also available.  For specific dates, times, and registration information, please call (530) 241-1653.

In Judy Brown's classes, dogs both young and old have fun!   Classes cover basic behaviors and commands such as attention, sit, settle on mat, off, loose leash walking, health checks, trade, wait, and down, and will address three problem behaviors. These classes meet one hour per week for 6 to 9 weeks and cost from $80-$95.  All dogs must be current on vaccines and proof of vaccination must be provided at time of enrollment. Check the Community Outreach page for current information on Judy's training classes.  Judy can be reached at 241-5972 for more information.
